the new dominique perrault designed ewha woman’s university in seoul, korea open this past april.
the building began with a design competion in 2004 and was inaugurated four years later. their campus
center design was created to house classrooms, libraries and a cafeteria for 20,000 students.
in addition, the space also holds administration offices and a commercial space, complete with theatre,
retail shops and sport facilities. the structure they created manages to fit all this in a small space by
submerging much of the space underground. light is let in through a large channel that sits between
the building’s two halves. this also creates a centrepiece for the school.
